__________Turley__________

Juvenile, California 2017 $47.
This is a blend of young-vine fruit from 13 different counties in California. Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2017 Zinfandel Juvenile is scented of cinnamon toast and licorice with warm red currants, cranberries, warm black berries and cherries with blue fruits and spicy hints. Light to medium-bodied, it has a good core of fruit in the mouth with loads of warm spices coming through, framed by softly textured tannins and juicy acidity, finishing long and spicy.

Rinaldi Vineyard, Amador 2016 $70.
Returning to the Turley portfolio after a few years' hiatus, the 2016 Zinfandel Rinaldi Vineyard exhibits an attractive bouquet of creamy balsamic cherries, rose petals, spring flowers and cracked black pepper. From a higher elevation, cooler climate site, the wine is full-bodied, chewy and concentrated, with a deep and tangy profile. It will merit at least a few years' bottle age.

Turley, Hayne Vineyard, Napa 2006 $188.
Never disappointing, and usually one of the finest Petite Syrahs made in California, the 2006 Petite Sirah Hayne Vineyard once again hits on all cylinders. A blockbuster Petite Sirah, inky purple in color with a glorious nose of charcoal, black raspberry, blueberry, creme de cassis, licorice, and crushed rocks, it is very full-bodied, powerful, with sweet tannin, decent acidity, and a 45+-second finish.

Syrah

Mollydooker, The Boxer, McLaren Vale 2018 $48.
Mollydooker's 2018 The Boxer Shiraz delivers what fans of this producer have come to expect: huge fruit, plenty of ripeness, tasty oak and oodles of flavor. Cedar, chocolate and mint accent cola, plum and berry fruit on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is round, supple and expansive. It's creamy-ripe, yet the wine ends silky and mouthwatering.

Krupp Brothers, Black Bart,
Stagecoach Vineyard, Napa 2009 $128.

Relentless, Shafer, Napa 2015 $157.
Blended of 90% Syrah and 10% Petite Sirah, the deep purple-black colored 2015 Relentless has a total rock-star nose of flamboyant blackberry pie, plum preserves, mulberries and licorice scents with hints of Sichuan pepper, hoisin, Indian spices and smoked meats plus a waft of raspberry leaves. Very big, rich, full and decadently fruited in the mouth, the palate packs in black fruits and exotic spices layers with a firm, rounded tannin frame and just enough freshness to carry off the long, opulent finish.

Red Wine

Blends

Leviathan, California 2017 $55.
Leviathan was founded in 2004 by winemaker Andy Erickson, former winemaker of Screaming Eagle Winery. The goal was simple: to create one, unique red wine, drawn from some of the best vineyards in Northern California. The resulting bottling, was born of a passion for blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, to create a full bodied wine with a character all of its own.

Cuvelier Los Andes, Grand Vin, Uco Valley 2013 $67.
Grand Vin is our “First Label”. We like to introduce our Grand Vin as the Argentinean cousin of Château Léoville-Poyferré, 2nd Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Julien, our family’s most renowned Estate in Bordeaux, France. Grand Vin is an exceptional Bordeaux-style blend, with an impressive tannic structure from our best Malbec, rounded, balanced and completed with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot.

L’Aventure, Côte a Côte, Paso Robles 2012 $159.
The terrific 2012 Cote a Cote is 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah that was aged in a combination of new and used French oak barrels. Seamless and elegant, with full-bodied richness, it has awesome notes of kirsch and black raspberry-styled fruits, toasted spice, licorice and roasted meats all emerging from the glass. This beauty shows the purity of the vintage, and backs that up with rock star concentration, perfect balance and serious length. It will have over a decade of longevity.

L’Aventure, Estate, Paso Robles 2013 $240.
Another blockbuster is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate. Incorporating 4% Petit Verdot, it offers telltale notes of currants, tobacco leaf, graphite and spring flower in its classic Cabernet style. Full-bodied and decidedly energetic and lively, with good acidity, it's another 2013 from Stephan that possesses a wallop of tannin in its structured, yet balanced and age-worth profile. It should be at its best from 2018-2028+

Red Wine

Meritage & Bordeaux

Cru Monplaisir, Bordeaux-Supérieur 2016 $43.

The Reveler, Columbia Valley 2017 $49.

Ch. Plince, Pomerol 2014 $57.

Ch. Sociando Mallet, Haut-Medoc 2012 $66.
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Wonderfully sweet, ripe tannins seem to be a rule of thumb from this great terroir just to the north of St.-Estèphe’s Château Montrose. A beautiful deep ruby/purple color, decent acidity, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and stunning fruit put this wine right in the midst of the best classified crus from the Médoc, yet it has never been classified. Softer than I would have suspected (and I’ve been following and buying this wine since the mid-1970s), this wine will still age beautifully for 10-15+ years (Robert Parker.)

Ch. La Closerie des Eyrins, Margaux 2016 $70.

Ch. Haut Segottes, St. Emilion, Grand Cru 2017 $70.

Crocus, Le Calcifère, Cahors 2014 $74.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot

Maestro, Robert Mondavi,
50th Anniversary, Napa 2013 $90.

Ceyneth, Sonoma, 2014 $94.
A blend of about 60% Cabernet Franc, with 25% Merlot, the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The grapes come primarily from Chalk Hill, but with smaller quantities of fruit from the Jackson Estate vineyards in Bennett Valley, Knights Valley and Alexander Valley. The daughter of Pierre Seillan, Hélène, makes these wines in an elegant, almost St.-Emilion Cheval Blanc style.

Palazzo, Right Bank, Napa 2009 $118.
The 2009 Right Bank is a rock star, an amazingly great effort – along with the 2012 and possibly the 2013 – Right Bank Proprietary Red Wine that Scott Palazzo has made to date. A blend of 68% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine still followed the trend of 14 months barrel aging in 40% new French oak. Truly great stuff, with a stunningly intense nose of crème de cassis, caramel, high quality espresso and possibly the dark chocolate from the Rhône Valley known as Valrhona, this wine is layered, full-bodied, opulent and stunningly rich, and consequently flirting with perfection. What’s amazing is that Scott Palazzo told me the harvest for the 2009 was one of the latest ever, extending into the first week of November. The result is a killer effort, although still an adolescent in terms of its evolution, with a good 15 or more years of life ahead of it.

Italics, Proprietary Red Blend,
Coombsville 2015 $120.
The 2015 Italics Proprietary Red Wine opens with cassis and raspberries. The mid-palate is rich and creamy, tempered by a fruit-based acidity.  The mouthfeel has a graphite texture, intermingling with the mid-palate and delivering length and density to the finish.  As a Bordeaux blend, it combines the softness of Merlot with the intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon, and seasoned with trace amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc to give it layers of fruit and complexity

Red Wine

Meritage & Bordeaux

 Cannonball, High Dive 2015 $143.
The wine’s ‘Left Bank’ Bordeaux style blends Cabernet Sauvignon with additional Bordeaux varietals; Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. High Dive exhibits aromatics of red cassis, notes of strawberries and crushed blackberries and tones of clove and white pepper. Rich, plush mouthfeel with sweet dark currant and blackberry fruit. Fabulous density and weight, with excellent texture. Bold and complex, with hints of dark chocolate and espresso. Aged 20 months in 60% new French oak.

Their basic Cabernet Sauvignon from Stags Leap, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is sensational and only hints at what consumers are likely to find with their more expensive and higher-end cuvées. This is just a stunner that is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec and Merlot. Dense purple in color, it has a beautiful nose of spring flowers, blackcurrants, subtle background oak and licorice and a long, opulent mouthfeel. This is a beauty that can be drunk now or cellared for another 15 more years. It is a heck of a wine and irresistible.

Petite Sirah - Petite Syrah

Ch. La Croix Bonis, St. Estephe 2014 $82.

Bacchus, Mont Blois, South Africa 2018 $89.

__________Justin, Paso Robles__________
Justification 2015 $103.
Isoceles 2015 $125.

Chimney Rock, Stag’s Leap District 2018 $126.

Cliff Lede, Stag’s Leap 2014 $141.
